Road Rally

Today was road rally at ELP and Adrian had a great time as usual. It was cold but it wasn't raining thankfully. Adrian had a dilemma this year. He couldn't decide if he wanted to ride his scooter or his bike. So I brought both. He started out on his scooter and then switched to his bike and then back to the scooter before the 30 minutes was up. Luckily Adrian was not involved in any of the crashes that occurred.

Mimi and Papa came for a visit this past Thursday but had to leave early Sunday morning. We had a great visit as usual. They got to see Morgan cheer at the basketball game on Saturday which was nice. Unfortunately I didn't get any photographs during the visit to post to the blog.

Saturday afternoon Mom, Andy, and I were sitting on the benches in the front of the house while the kids played with their neighborhood friends. Morgan's little friend, Alyssa, came over and was showing us the things she received in the goody bag from the party she had just attended. She pulled items out one at a time to identify for us. She pulled out a ring with lip gloss, a beaded necklace, and then a little diary on a keychain which she identified as "a diarrhea". It was so funny! Kids say the darndest things.

Adrian's review

This past Wednesday I had a mid-year conference with Adrian's teachers regarding his progress socially, physically, and academically. I was a little tentative. I know that Adrian is an intelligent and sweet boy but he has his moments where he can be described as a "stinker". Also, you just never know how they act when you are not there to constantly provide gentle reminders how to behave. I should not have worried. He had a glowing review in all areas. Some of the words his teachers used to describe him include "adorable, very bright, great friend, enthusiastic, excited, extremely social, adventurous, and precious". I am so pleased that he is blossoming at ELP. He has one more year of preschool before he is eligible for kindergarten. I'm sure he will continue to blow me away.

Cheer Power!

This afternoon Morgan cheered for her first basketball game. The program is called "Upward" and it is coordinated through the Methodist Church. It is a great program and she is really enjoying it so far. She has had 2 practices and therefore has learned 2 new cheers. Just before the game they have the cheerleaders and then the basketball players run through an inflatable arch as they call their names. The kids seemed to get a kick out of that. Most of the pictures I took during the game were not very good because our camera doesn't do well indoors with the zoom on. I included a picture of Morgan just before the game and another one when she was chosen to lead the cheer.

Icy weather

The past few days the weathermen have been talking about the ice storm approaching. Some schools closed yesterday but not CISD where we live. Yesterday afternoon it started raining again and it was near freezing so we skipped skate night. The kids were disappointed but I didn't want to take a chance on driving in those conditions. This morning the overpass into The Woodlands was closed and there were several pile-ups on other overpasses south of here. The CISD schools were closed so I let the kids sleep in. There were icicles on the eaves of the house, the leaves and trees, patio furniture, etc. I picked some icicles and brought them inside for the kids. Adrian held his until it melted and Morgan ate hers. It is so cold and wet outside. At least if there was snow we could have a good time playing outside but it is only ice. Things should be back to normal tomorrow.

More snow in The Woodlands?

This past Wednesday was "snow day" at ELP. Every year they bring in an ice truck to blow snow on the side yard and let each class play in it for 30 minutes on one of 2 days. This year Adrian's class was the first to play on the first day. It was great! They had so much fun. After playing in the snow they went inside and had hot chocolate.

Report Card

Time to brag again! Morgan came home yesterday with 3 ribbons. One ribbon was for perfect attendance. One ribbon was for never being tardy either. The third ribbon was for making the "A" honor roll. On her report card she received 100s in Language Arts/Reading, Social Studies, and Science. She got a 98 in Writing/Language and a 96 in Math. We are so proud of her.

In school this week Ms. Guyton asked the first graders what their New Year's Resolutions were and Morgan came up with "reading more". We went to the used book store today and she found another Junie B. Jones book that she doesn't already have. She was so cute reading it out loud on the way home in the van.

As for Adrian, today I told him we were going to "triple A (AAA)" and he asked me if they sold batteries. Too cute!

Skate Night

Tuesday night Andy and I took the kids to Sk8town. We met our friend Carmen and her sons, Michael and Ryan. It was the first time Morgan and Adrian had been on real roller skates. After 5 minutes they both were ready to give up and go home. They did not like it at all! I told them we had just paid $5 each to get in and we weren't going anywhere. I took them around the rink one loop each at a time and after a few loops they were really loving it and when it was finally time to leave they didn't want to.

Morgan was getting pretty stable toward the end but still didn't want to venture on her own, even holding on to the wall. Adrian, however, was ready to take off even though he didn't get very far. I had just started taking Morgan on her loop and looked back and saw Adrian was on the rink floundering around. So I went back and got him and was trying to help both at the same time. Another time they had "backward skate only". I deposited the kids on the carpet and wanted to do it for old-time's sake and when I came back around I saw Adrian on the rink shuffling backwards. It was cute! Adrian also has his own unique style of skating. He pretty much keeps his right skate on the ground and pushes with his left one. I think it has something to do with how much time he has been spending riding his scooter he got from Santa.

There is another skate night planned for January 16th and we are so there!
